Message from The Organizers
As the organizers of the 2016 International Symposium on Transport Phenomena and Applications (STPA) & the 5th Forum on Transport Phenomena Education held at National Central University, Taiwan R.O.C. on November 26, 2016, we would like to express our gratitude for this great honor to keep up the tradition of giving everyone a memorable and fun conference experience at the STPA. This year, the STPA will be going hand-in-hand with the 2016 Taiwan/Korea Joint Meeting on Chemical Engineering held from November 25 and 26, 2016. Many renowned scholars from Korea, Japan and France have already been invited to participate this significant academic event. All sections will be conducted in English.
Due to the ubiquity of solution crystallization from biotechnology to energy, the theme of this year STPA will focus on solution crystallization from macro- to micro-scale. At the education forum, we will discuss of how Transport Phenomena is related to other disciplines and it is taught to kids, non-engineers and the public.
Transport Phenomena is an important core subject. Every chemical engineering student has to learn Transport Phenomena. However, they are unfamiliar with it before they go to college. To make the matter worse, a lot of equations in physics and mathematics must be solved first before its effect at work can be fully demonstrated. This often gives students a misconception that this abstract subject is merely a mathematical exercise, and only useful in petrochemical industry.
Realizing the urge of having an open communication channel among students, professors, researchers, industry and the general public on this elusive subject, Professor Wei-Ming Lu from National Taiwan University had mustered the Departments of Chemical Engineering in National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and called forth the 1st Symposium on Transport Phenomena and Applications (STPA) in 1979 in Taiwan, R.O.C. The invitation of this annual meeting was further extended to students and scholars in Japan and Singapore in 1981. The growth of Taiwan STPA did not just stop there. It had further evolved into an academic exchange platform for students and scholars worldwide since the year of 2000 under the trend of globalization and the leadership of Professor Duu-Jong Lee from National Taiwan University.
Over all these years, the STPA has constantly received the financial support from the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan R.O.C., and won the strong support from the experts in the arena of chemical engineering, biomedicine, pharmaceutical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, and energy. Therefore, a large attendance and more than 100 papers and posters are expected annually at the STPA.
We are extremely grateful for your contributions as participants in the past. It is the expertise and passion of you in Transport Phenomena that makes it possible for STPA to maintain the excellence of its quality, which is advancing Transport Phenomena and the growth of related fields.
Please come join us and experience the Taiwanese culture. We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2016 International Symposium on Transport Phenomena and Applications and the 5th Forum on Transport Phenomena Education in National Central University, Taiwan R.O.C. on November 26, 2016! |
